Hensel Recyclng was founded in 1998 in Aschaffenburg (Germany) and is one of the world precious metals recycling leaders, with seven subsidiaries spread all around the globe, stretching from the USA until Australia, one joint venture in China, two sales offices (RSA and Czech Republic) and approximately 220 employees worldwide. Hensel recovers Pt, Pd and Rh mainly from spent catalytic converters from automobile and industrial applications, as well as from oxygen sensors, e-scrap materials and fuel cells. Hensel’s services comprise purchasing, toll refining, fast settlement, analysis and determination, logistics and precious metals management. The company is fully certified in accordance with § 56 of the German Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act (KrWG), German Law on emissions protection (BlmSchG), DIN EN ISO 9001:2008, DIN EN ISO 14001 2009 and is members of many international recycling associations, such as: ARA, BIR, BVMW, BVSE, FVEM, IPMI and VRA

Role in BEST4Hy

HRD coordinates the WP1 Existing and novel recycling technologies of PEMs: proof of concept (TRL3→TRL5) by testing first in the lab, optimizing the process, designing and building the pilot at TRL5 and then carrying out the validation and demo-phase tests on the 2 processes: hydrometallurgical recovery and alcoholic dissolution of MEA. He participates at WP2 performing analysis of Pt in solution; in WP6 performing authorization analysis for scaling the process and as main partner involved in the exploitation styrategies.
